Save Our green Spaces (SOS) aim to preserve the historic open green spaces of Cambridge. Since residents associations are very well represented already in Cambridge we will confine our attention to the maintenance and future of the open green spaces in the City.
SOS wishes to draw peoples attention to threats to our heritage and environment, and to urge the City council to adopt policies that preserves our historic green spaces.
We are not completely opposed to development, but believe that it should only be carried out under the guidance of a policy which has preservation as a fundamental tenet.
We also know that there are a number of local individuals and groups who are also concerned about the green open spaces in the city, and are probably dealing with similar issues in their areas, but who may not know each other.
SOS believe that it will be beneficial to bring these people together for discussion and exchange of ideas and to pinpoint important issues concerning green spaces which have already arisen or are seen as a problem for the future.
We have always felt that communication between the various friends and residents association groups in Cambridge is vital and to that end we want to act as a channel of information between the various residents and friends groups, to facilitate meetings between them to allow relevant topics to be discussed, information to be exchanged and contacts made. On occasion it may be appropriate for SOS to act in a co-ordinating role and make representation to councils and other organisations about specific important common issues. The authorities involved would then be faced with a much more concerted and informed general group with which they can deal and discuss issues.
