From secretary_sos at hotmail.com Wed Feb 6 20:56:50 2013 From: secretary_sos at hotmail.com (Secretary SOS) Date: Wed, 6 Feb 2013 20:56:50 +0000 Subject: [Announce] Two consultations - Parkers Piece and Mitcham's Corner Message-ID: Dear Friend or member of SOS, Two things to bring to your attention; firstly you may have read about or seen the trial lighting bollards across Parker's Piece. The Council has an online consultation which is open until 4 March which you may like to look at : http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/ccm/content/community-and-living/community-safety/parkers-piece-lighting-consultation.en You can see some pictures of the bollards on our website: http://www.soscambridge.org.uk Secondly, and more urgently as the time period is much shorter, you may wish to look at the proposed planning application for the Staples site at Mitcham's Corner. There is a newly formed association, the Friends of Mitcham's Corner (www.friendsofmitchamscorner.org.uk/Staples.html) who have drawn our attention to the application. To view the application on line - visit www.cambridge.gov.uk/planningpublicaccess and enter 13/0036/FUL in the search field. The Friends are holding a meeting upstairs at The Boat House tomorrow, Thursday 7th February at 5.30pm. Developers want to build a four storey hostel for 170, 16 to 18 year-old students, on the roundabout at Mitcham's Corner. If planning permission is granted, the building will dominate the skyline and be visible from Jesus Green and Midsummer Common in views looking north across the river. The plan is being presented as the Regeneration of Mitcham?s Corner but all it is offering is a disproportionately large building of poor design and inappropriate purpose. The proposal does not address the issues regarding the current road layout, it does not include any new retail or business opportunities, offers no public car parking facilities or anything that would help to revive this generally overlooked part of Cambridge. More information can be found on the Friends of Mitcham?s Corner website mitchamscornerfriends at gmail.com where there is also an online petition to sign. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/staples-site/ *The Council has extended the consultation period to 1st March 2013. * To make a comment on the Council?s online planning register go to www.cambridge.gov.uk/planningpublicaccess enter 13/0036/FUL in the search field and select ?Make a Public Comment?. You will be asked to register if it is the first time you have used the system. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
