From chair at soscambridge.org.uk Thu Nov 6 21:51:22 2014 From: chair at soscambridge.org.uk (John Lawton) Date: Thu, 06 Nov 2014 21:51:22 +0000 Subject: [Announce] Jesus Green Association AGM on Nov 25th Message-ID: <20141106215125.CF17A78130@mx6.email-cluster.com> The Jesus Green Association are holding their AGM on Tuesday 25th November at 8pm. The venue is the Wesley Methodist Church, Christ's Pieces. More details and agenda are here: http://www.jesusgreen.org.uk/ I hope to see you there! John Lawton SOS Chair ------------------------------------------------------ Save Our green Spaces: http://www.soscambridge.org.uk Twitter: @SOS_Cambridge ------------------------------------------------------ From chair at soscambridge.org.uk Tue Nov 11 14:28:07 2014 From: chair at soscambridge.org.uk (John Lawton) Date: Tue, 11 Nov 2014 14:28:07 +0000 Subject: [Announce] 'Cambridge Rules' public art commission consultation - ends Dec 5th Message-ID: <20141111142812.60F32781DF@mx6.email-cluster.com> I write to let you know about renewed plans for a public art installation on Parker's Piece. You may remember that the previous proposals were kicked into the long grass by the then executive councillor http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Elitism-row-new-plans-football-artwork-Parkers-Piece/story-22364575-detail/story.html but inevitably the plans have been revisited as the council has S106 (developer taxes) funds allotted for public art which are burning holes in their pockets. If these funds aren't spent on something within a certain timescale then they have to be returned to the developer. Now we have a choice of four new designs: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Revealed-new-designs-football-monument-Parker-s/story-24430875-detail/story.html - but there is of course an important fifth choice, to do nothing. We strongly maintain that Green Spaces are precisely that and the simplicity of the unobstructed space in Parker's Piece is most important. It is not a blank canvas to be adorned with this and that, here and there. The Council's own Conservation Report for Parker's Piece, (2001) http://www.soscambridge.org.uk/pdf/Parker%27s%20Piece%20Conservation%20Plan.pdf - a document that councillors and officers appear to be strangers to, wisely says: "Strongly resist the placing of permanent structures or artefacts in the central open area of Parker's Piece". "It would be very easy to lose this essential character of Parker's Piece by the addition of artefacts, structures or tree planting in the central area." Please respond to the online consultation here: https://www.cambridge.gov.uk/the-cambridge-rules The executive councillor for City Centre & Public Spaces is Carina O'Reilly: mailto:carinaoreilly at gmail.com The executive councillor for Community, Arts & Recreation is Richard Johnson: mailto:Richard.Johnson at cambridge.gov.uk Best wishes, John Lawton SOS Chair ------------------------------------------------------ Save Our green Spaces: http://www.soscambridge.org.uk Twitter: @SOS_Cambridge ------------------------------------------------------ From chair at soscambridge.org.uk Sun Nov 23 22:07:24 2014 From: chair at soscambridge.org.uk (John Lawton) Date: Sun, 23 Nov 2014 22:07:24 +0000 Subject: [Announce] No Parkside Bus photo opportunity Monday 9:30am Message-ID: <20141123220733.03D0478217@mx6.email-cluster.com> The No Parkside Bus campaign http://parksidebus.com/ who are fighting plans for a permanent enlarged coach station on Parkside have told us of a photo opportunity on Monday at 9:30am when the City MP Julian Huppert is due to appear. This is a good opportunity to show the authorities that we oppose a permanent station being built there, contrary to promises made in 2008 when temporary permission was given for the current arrangement. We believe that a coach station with facilities for drivers and passengers should be built at the Railway Station. Unfortunately National Express and the County Council seem to think otherwise. Please make your views known to Julian Huppert.
